Hyper City Garden presents works of percussion in conjunction with live processing from 2021-2023.
This album might extend over time.

Music, motivation

Most of the recordings were played somewhere lush, in different summery, half-shaded & humid green spaces. This partly included live electronics.
Hyper City Garden is an emotional interplay (often fight/collision) between starkly differing interests and characters, which i am trying to fuse despite all odds or chances.
An attempt for an impossible crossover.
Wild & unorganized versus highly controlled.
Free art spaces versus cold profit interest.
Looseness versus tightness versus standstill versus high density.

A century-old typical discourse/dispute in music-making and composition is another reference. Emotion/impulse and distanced planning & reorganisation fight there, too.
(Thinking of how Mr. Theremin's instrument invention wasn't welcome to an academic music establishment. Idiotically they found his music too sweet.

Today automated setups are all over the place. Some are fun to watch (when they fail), like in a zoo of machines or at a fair. However, while self-sufficient turns comical at times, the sheer presence of such mechanisms in every aspect of life now tends to threaten and even assimilate human spirits.

Releasing this slightly early, because I am very angry, rant -->

The city of Barcelona starts demolishing Marina 122 since June 2nd, 2023.
Marina 122 is a marvelous artist space in an old central warehouse (Casa Gay) since 2000, on Carrer de la Marina 122. There is ateliers, dance floors, a beautiful garden, guest quarters and mindful and friendly hosts, who are artists, dancers, musicians themselves.
Their artworks are cut to pieces now. Artists turn homeless and visitors will only find concrete devastation soon.

I was allowed to work at this beautiful space twice in the last years, invaluable, really.

The city started threatening last year. Despite local protest, artist organisation and support it ultimately turned into a vicious enemy. Remember, that Barcelona self-congratulates itself with historic art and architecture as it's main attraction.
In reality the hype mostly fosters gentrification, money interest and cold buerocratic & undemocratic city planning. These "inhumanes" are all working together in the demolishion of art & its practice, aiming for the absurd: A flat concrete terrace and concrete ramp are going to be built next to a park, that already sports concrete and poor looking plants, erasing a small but diverse subtropical jungle in Marinas garden, home for numerous birds.

Ironically a nextdoor cafe and airBNB ar allowed to stay open now, although city plans were to take the whole block down. Why? -> Well, it's owned by a millionaire.

If Gaudi was alive he'd leave the city immediately.
And the persistency of 22+ years of artistic work at Marina 122 can only be admired.
